Halloween Party

The hall is decorated with the pupils’ pictures of scary heroes, cobwebs and pumpkins with lit candles inside. The spectators are wearing costumes or just masks of evil spirits.

Boy. Do you see a strange mask in the corner of the room? It looks like a pumpkin.
Girl. It is not a mask. It’s a jack-o’-lantern. To make it you should cut off the top of a pumpkin  and scoop it out. Then cut out the eyes, nose and mouth and put a lit candle inside.
Boy. What has the jack-o’-lantern got to do with festivals?
Girl. It’s Halloween. Have you heard of Halloween?
Boy. No, I haven’t. What is it?
Girl. It’s on October 31. They say ghosts and witches come out on Halloween. In English- speaking countries children put on masks, go from house to house and say: “Trick or Treat.”
Boy. Do they really play tricks?
Girl. Usually people give them sweets, fruit, gums, nuts or money, so they don’t play tricks. But sometimes, if you don’t give anything to them, they put bins in front of the door or throw flour at the windows.
Boy. It is not pleasant.
Girl. The most exciting are Halloween parties with masquerade, where people dress as witches and ghosts.
Boy. Fantastic! I’ve never heard of such a festival.
Girl. Witches, witches, skeletons and bats,
Scary ghosts and big black cats,
         Welcome, welcome,
         Let’s have fun
         Today, on Halloween night!
Boy. We are glad to invite you to our Halloween party of all evil forces.
Jack-o’-lantern appears dancing to Halloween music.

Jack-o’-lantern. Who am I?
                          A face so round
                          And eyes so bright,
                          A nose that glows,
                          My, what a sight!
                          A scary mouth
                          With a jolly grin.
                          No arms, no legs,
                          Just head to chin.

Boy. Look at this Jack-o’-lantern! Very nice, isn’t it?
Girl. The old legend says that once there was a man whose name was Jack, and he was very bad, very mean. One day he died…

Scene 1
A man is lying (dead). His soul leaves his body and goes to Paradise.
Jack’s soul. Let me in, please, let me in.
Voice 1. Sorry, but I can’t. there is no place for you here, at the paradise.
The soul goes to Hell.
Jack’s soul. Let me in, please, let me in.
Voice 2. No, I don’t want you here. I can do only one thing for you. Take this candle. Put it into the pumpkin. It will give you light on your long way to nowhere.
Jack’s soul goes to the children with the pumpkin in his hands.
Jack’s soul. Please, let me in, let me in, please.

Boy. With this lantern Jack’s soul is still looking for a place to stay.
Girl. That’s why pumpkins became a symbol of Halloween.

Scene 2
Skeleton appears dancing to Halloween music.
Skeleton. Hi, children! Do you know who I am? I’m a scary but friendly skeleton. Halloween is coming and we have no place to have our “trick-o’-treat” disco. Oh, I see somebody is walking over there.
Dracula appears dancing to Halloween music.
Skeleton. Hi! Drackie, what are you looking for here?
Dracula. Hi, Bones! I think we need some place to have our Halloween party. What a nice pumpkin!
Vampire appears dancing to Halloween music.
Vampire. Hi, guys, it’s me the bloodiest Vampire. It’s rather cold outside. I saw this wonderful pumpkin and thought I could spend some time here. It’s nice to see you, guys!
Dracula. Glad to see you, Vampie. How are you?
Vampire. Not very well. I’m afraid, bad times.
Skeleton. Oh, dear, what has happened to your sharp teeth?
Vampire. I don’t really know. I think it’s because I can’t get blood any more. Last month I had my biggest teeth pulled out. The doctor advised me Blend-a med instead of blood. It’s terrible! Children aren’t afraid of me!
Bat appears dancing to Halloween music.
Bat. Hi, guys, have a nice Halloween!
Dracula. Hi, Batty. How are things?
Bat. I can’t squeal any more. I have a sore throat. That’s why I can’t frighten these boys and girls.
Skeleton. I know why. You spend too much time at McDonald’s eating ice-cream and drinking coke with ice.
Mummy appears dancing to Halloween music.
Mummy. Hi, guys, it’s me, Mummy. Can I come in and enjoy the party with you?
Vampire. Of course. You’ll be the queen of our Halloween party. (puts  a crown on her head).
Mummy. Oh, thank you, my best friend Vampie! Would you like to play tricks on children? Come on, my friends! Today is Halloween night!
Ghost appears.
Ghost. Wait! You can’t do it without me! I’m the scariest ghost and the children will be afraid of me!
All the heroes are dancing to Halloween music.
